COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

The Junior League of Pueblo hosts two Book Swap events per year, one in the Fall and one in the Spring. Children at local Title One schools are asked to bring in an old book and “swap” it for a new one. This is a day long event that includes storytelling, games, readings by prominent community members, and instructions on choosing the right book for the child’s reading level. Many children leave with more than one new book and with a greater appreciation for literacy in their lives. Plans are being made to record books onto CD’s for local school libraries, too.

Other recent community programs have included Habitat for Humanity, Christmas gift wrapping at CASA, serving dinners at Wayside Cross Mission, providing meals for the YWCA, and Sweet Dreams (reading to children in the hospital).

Every Christmas, the entire Junior League membership donates hundreds of cookies to the Child Advocacy Center.
